NOVEMBER MEETING

BUSINESS

Well attended meeting with a few guests. The only business to discuss was the annual Christmas party. A vote was taken and passed to hold the Christmas party and have the chapter provide the meat dishes. Greg Rose volunteered his home this year for the event. A chapter email was sent to everyone on the chapter list outlining the details. If you have yet to receive the details, contact Rusty White at his email address.

Since our Christmas party will be held on the same date as our December meeting, THERE WILL BE NO REGULAR DECEMBER MEETING. We look forward to seeing everyone in January, same time, same place.

We spent some time discussing the the new Nagato kit brought to the meeting after talking about plastic and the raffle. More later.

GUESTS

William Alves, owner and operator of Freedom Discount Books and Hobbies attended to introduce his shop to club members. As it turned out, a number of chapter members have already patronized his shop. Greg Wells, and Jerry White also visited the chapter and were treated with our usual friendly welcome from everyone in the chapter. Thanks to all you guys for visiting and please come again and better yet, join our happy group. We LOVE having guests!

PLASTIC

Larry Burkes surprised everyone when he brought a 1/200 scale Verlinden CSS Virginia ironclad ram. Well done!

Steve Moore brought along a completed 700mm Lee Mongol Warrior figure painted in his usual Testor Enamels (no one knows how he does it!). Great model.

Our guest, Jerry White brought along a Dragon 1/35 scale M4-A3 "Easy Eight" Sherman tank with extra Eduard brass details and Legend Sherman Stowage crates. Very nice and realistic looking.

Nick Mertes brought a 1/48 scale Junkers D-1 "Roden" model built OOB.

Robert Salmon brought the new 1/350 Hasegawa Nagato kit for the chapter to see in the box. Robert also purchased two of the optional photo etched detail sets to go with the Nagato kit. They were exquisite toi say the least. We spent some time discussing and looking over this great new kit. Thanks to Robert for brining it to the meeting. We always enjoy seeing these kits up close and in person before buying. From a ship builder, let me say this kit is worth every dime! I can hardly wait to see it built up.

OCTOBER MEETING

The October meeting was pretty well attended with 14 in attendance along with two guests.

SOONERCON:
As one may have guessed, SoonerCon was the main topic of conversation. Although the contest didn't make a profit, it was heralded as a success as it had no real problems occur, and no complaints were made. Discussion was concentrated on errors made in the organization end of the event and how to correct them next time. A motion was made to vote to hold SoonerCon again next year and was seconded. A vote was taken and was almost unanimous in favor of holding SoonerCon next year.

Butch Maury was congratulated for his hard work being SoonerCon Chairman, but he quickly turned down the job for next year. Hmmmmmm.... That happens a lot. So we will be in search of a new Chairman for next year.

THEME CONTEST:
Greg Rose surprised everyone with a new theme contest. "90 Years and Counting", A salute to the Dough Boys of WWI is the theme. It's a simple contest for Metro members in honor of the 90th anniversary of the First World War. Here's the rules:

All models must represent some aspect of the First World War. Models may be any any subject matter (auto, ship, armor, etc). Models may any size and scale.
The must be started AFTER the October 13th, 2007 meeting (e.g. nothing ready built on the shelf) and the model must be finished by the March 8th, 2008 meeting.
The model may include after market parts, and may be modified any way the modeler sees fit.
More than one model may be entered.
Bring the finished model(s) to the March 8th meeting and voting will done by all members in attendance (one vote per member).
The winner will receive glory and honor and some undisclosed semi appropriate token prize.
In addition, a special "participation award" will be presented to the modeler who presents a "show and tell" of their project in progress the most times at the three meeting leading up to the contest (Nov., Jan., Feb. ).

PLASTIC:
John Martenzivic brought a 70s-80s 1/48 scale Academy F-111 Aardvark in progress ready for final paint. It had lots of additional cast resin goodies to add to the realism.

Larry Burkes brought in a a completed Revell 1/144 scale KC-135 he won at the raffle at last months meeting as well as a 1/48th Accurate Miniatures TBF Avenger and 1/48 scale B-17 in progress.

Greg Rose brought along a 1/72 scale KA-61 Tony (sorry didn't get the manufacturer).

James Staley brought along a Hobby Boss 1/72 scale F4F-4 Wildcat kit to discuss.

Yours truly brought along a two piece mold in progress to discuss questions regarding the process.

All in all a great meeting. Our next meeting will be November 17 where the location of the annual Christmas party will be held. If you wish to hold the party at your home this year, let me know.

Web Site Update

The web site has been updated with a "Wants and Disposals" section in the main menu. Just log on, go to the main menu, click the link and follow the directions.

Website Update

Articles and reviews sections have now been added to the web site. I want to encourage everyone (members and guests alike) to submit build articles and kit reviews to our web site. I believe these new areas will attract more people to the hobby and our new web site. I just want to post a few rules for reviews and articles.

If you publish a negative review, please use tact and offer suggestions to correct the problems. No one wants to hear their kits trashed. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and common courtesy is owed to all.
Keep it clean. No name calling or cursing allowed.
No politics or religion. There are other forums that deal with these issues. Take them there.
Violators will have their posts deleted and may face expulsion from the site.

SEPTEMBER MEETING

The meeting this month was somewhat lightly attended as most are in the summer months. The main topic for discussion was the upcoming SoonerCon '07 model contest.

SOONERCON '07:

Apparently, the Moore Community Center isn't going to allow us into the building until 7:30 am and we couldn't get in to set up the evening before the contest due to others using the tables for activities. We will have all hands on deck to assist the vendors getting set up since the contest officially opens at 8:00am.
All the forms were double checked to ensure we were ready for the show.
We spent some time discussing how the registration, cashier, and raffle personnel would be seated. All seems to be in order and ready for the show. The Chairman had originally planned another meeting before the contest, but everyone was so pleased with things so far the meeting was deemed not necessary.

WEB SITE:

The new club web site will go active as soon as one final addition is made by our master web master. The chapter as whole seems very pleased with the site so far.
Added Kit Reviews and Articles to the web site. These two additions will allow our membership to add reviews and models builds. This addition should also help generate more hits on the site.

NEW MEMBER:

We had an old friend show up for the meeting this month as a "guest". Larry Burke was a Metro member from way back and re-joined after a 10 year hiatus from model building as an official member. Welcome home Larry! Larry also walked away with a raffle prize to celebrate his re-introduction into modeling.

PLASTIC:

There only a few models to be discussed this month due to the low attendance.

Greg Rose brought a completed model and one under construction.

The completed model was a Hobby Boss 1/72 scale F4U-4.
Greg also brought a 1/32 scale 21st Century Toys F4U-1 still under construction.

Earl Whittington brought a 1/35 scale Academy British Warrior, in Operation Iraqi freedom markings. Unfortunately, the batteries died in my camera before I could get a photo. Sorry Earl.
